My Little Cities series by Jennifer Adams + Greg Pizzoli

Being as big a fan of the BabyLit series as I am (for those who don’t know what BabyLit is, it’s a series of books produced by publisher Gibbs Smith that introduces classic literature to babies in the form of board books), you can imagine my joy when I discovered the My Little Cities board book series by the same creator, Jennifer Adams. Her board book ideas are absolute gold. I suspect her picture books are, too, though I have not picked one up yet myself, but they’re based on Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven, so how could they not be?

The My Little Cities books are exactly what they sound like: adorable board books each featuring a different city with bright, kid-friendly illustrations and short engaging text. If you’re at all familiar with Miroslav Sasek‘s This Is… series of picture books that do something similar, this is essentially an updated take for the younger audience.

There are four books in the series so far, with two of them released just this past July 2017. The first two featured New York and London, while the second set of two focus on San Francisco and Paris. I wonder where My Little Cities will take us next!

My Little Cities: New York
9781452153889, Chronicle Books, $9.99

Take a whirlwind tour of the Big Apple: cheer with the roaring crowds at Yankee Stadium, chug along peacefully on the Staten Island Ferry, wonder at the bright lights of Times Square, and say good night to the famous New York City skyline.

My Little Cities: London

Cross the pond and explore the city on the Thames: feed the pigeons in Trafalgar Square, watch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, marvel at the spinning lights of the London Eye, and say good night to London’s landmark skyline.

My Little Cities: San Francisco
9781452153919, Chronicle Books, $9.99

High-chair travelers can explore the City by the Bay: cruise along the majestic Golden Gate Bridge, play with the sea lions at Pier 39, ride cable cars up steep hills, and have a picnic in lovely San Francisco.

My Little Cities: Paris
9781452153902, Chronicle Books, $9.99

High-chair travelers can take a whirlwind tour of the city of light and love Listen to the choir at Notre Dame Cathedral, explore the catacombs, ride up to the tip-top of the Eiffel Tower and, of course, say good night to the sparkling city of Paris.

Book review time!
The Story of Diva and Flea
By Mo Willems + Tony DiTerlizzi
Loved this as a read-aloud for little ones that can sit still for longer picture books, or, as it's a beginning chapter book, great for ages 6-8 who are learning how to read more confidently by themselves.

I fell in love with this book years ago, before the movie was even a dream. Though I'm not a fan of the movie tie-in cover, I'll gladly place this book in readers' hands. . . .
