November New Releases

Here are the books I’m particularly excited about that will be coming out in November:

Manners & Mutiny, Book 4, Finishing School series by Gail Carriger

I’ve waxed poetic about Gail Carriger’s books many times before (here’s a short review of the first book she ever put out, Soulless), and have made no secret of the fact that I greatly enjoy all three of the series she’s now has out or is currently working on. Soulless begins the Parasol Protectorate series for adults, containing 5 books and starring Alexia Tarabotti.

Ms. Carriger’s recently released book, Prudence, begins a new series but continues adventures in that same world with Alexia’s daughter, Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama (Rue for short), leading the charge in The Custard Protocol series, also intended for adults.

Now, book 4 of the Finishing School series is set to release. Sophronia Temminnick is the young lady at the center of the Finishing School series, which is in the steampunk Victorian world originally created by Ms. Carriger in Soulless, but set 25 years prior to that series. This series is intended for a younger audience, the early teen set, though frankly all of her books make great YA/adult crossover titles. What’s not to love about vampires, werewolves, steam-powered inventions, floating dirigibles, spy school, and tea parties?
Here is the publisher description for the conclusion of this particular series, Manners & Mutiny:

When a dastardly Pickleman plot comes to fruition, only Sophronia can save her friends, her school, and all of London…but at what cost? Our proper young heroine puts her training and skills to the test in this highly anticipated conclusion of the rousing, intriguing, and always polished New York Times bestselling Finishing School series!

Book review time!
The Story of Diva and Flea
By Mo Willems + Tony DiTerlizzi
Loved this as a read-aloud for little ones that can sit still for longer picture books, or, as it's a beginning chapter book, great for ages 6-8 who are learning how to read more confidently by themselves.

#poemaday #nationalpoetrymonth #haiku #kerouac #wildlyread #poem #poetry First day of full-time hours in my new job as a bookseller for an independent bookstore, and it's staff pick time! I fell in love with this book years ago, before the movie was even a dream. Though I'm not a fan of the movie tie-in cover, I'll gladly place this book in readers' hands. . . .
