Another Tuesday, another round of new releases! Here are brief blurbs about some of my new favorite children’s picture books, middle grade novels, and teen reads that released today.
Papillon Goes to the Vet (The Very Fluffy Kitty #2) by A.N. Kang (Disney-Hyperion, $16.99) This book defines the word adorable. A fluffy white kitty is taken to the vet when feeling unwell. Though initially scared, Papillon makes some new friends. Perfect for a storytime, perhaps petting your favorite kitty. Ages 3+
Big Words for Little Geniuses by Susan & James Patterson, illustrated by Hsinping Pan (Jimmy Paterson, $17.99) A is for Apple, B is for… Just kidding! You won’t find any of those lilliputian words here, you nincompoop. This book doesn’t mean to bumfuzzle you, just teach a moppet some new vocabulary for their loquacious habits. Ages 3+
Sam, the Most Scaredy-Cat Kid in the Whole World by Mo Willems (Disney-Hyperion, $17.99) Finally! The long-awaited sequel to Leonardo the Terrible Monster has arrived! Remember his friend, Sam? Well Sam’s got a story of his own, when he meets someone new who may rival Sam for the title of “most scaredy-cat kid in the whole world”. Ages 4+
All’s Faire in Middle School by Victoria Jamieson (Dial, $20.99) The creator of the Newbery Honor Book, Roller Girl, is back with a new graphic novel all about starting middle school, with a Renaissance theme, of course. Ages 9+
The Glass Town Game by Catherynne M. Valente (Margaret K. McElderry, $17.99) From the inventive imagination of the woman behind The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making comes another literary masterpiece, exploring the world of the Bronte siblings as they try to save each other and all of England. Ages 10+
Genuine Fraud by e. lockhart (Delacorte, $18.99) In this 2nd thriller by beloved YA author e.lockhart (We Were Liars), the reader must decide which story relayed by the character is the truth. We know Jule is a liar. We know Imogen is a cheater. Which one is the murderess? Which one is still alive? The flashback structure of the tale makes you flip faster and faster through the pages to discover (what may or may not be) the truth. Ages 14+ Author Event on 10/2 & Signed First Edition Club Pick!
